September is Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month
,September is Alzheimer’s awareness month and as you probably know, there are some alarming statistics about this debilitating condition! According to the Alzheimer’s Disease International by 2050, “the number of people living with dementia around the world will have almost tripled to 152 million, making the disease one of the most significant health and social crises of the 21st century”.
Leaving the genetic factors aside, there are other factors linked to this disease. Dr. David Perlmutter, a neurologist and author of “Grain Brain” warns that anything that promotes insulin resistance, like a processed food diet, will ultimately also raise your risk of Alzheimer’s. As mentioned in a ScienceNews article and in this great TED Talk by Lisa Genova poor sleep or lack of sleep is linked to Alzheimer.
As a health coach I work with my clients to implement new routines that have heathy nutrition, movement and sleep included. These factors are huge in preventing the development of Alzheimer and you have the power of controlling them. But sometimes is hard to fight the old habits and we need more than just willpower. We need support and accountability and that is where I help. Please reach out to me and let’s schedule a free consultation to see how you can start the journey of better health and avoid becoming a statistic. Also, remember there is still time to register for the Wellness Together class.
